Privacy Policy

The short version

Working Inland is a private place to do inner work, and we treat it that way. We collect only what we need to run the Service for you. Your writing is yours — we don't sell it, we don't use it for advertising, and we use it only to provide the Service to you, including letting our bounded AI guide respond to what you write. We don't store your individual quiz answers. You can export your work anytime and delete your account whenever you like. This policy explains what we collect, how we use and protect it, who helps us run the Service, and the rights you have under Colorado law.

This Privacy Policy is part of our Terms of Service and works alongside our Subscription & Refund Policy.

1. Who we are

Working Inland LLC (“Working Inland,” “we,” “us”), 1500 N Grant St, Ste N, Denver, CO 80203, operates the Working Inland website and application (the “Service”). Questions about privacy: support@workinginland.com.

2. What we collect

Account information. Your email address, used to create and secure your account and to communicate with you about the Service.

Your writing. The reflections, captures, journal entries, and other content you create in the Service. This is the heart of the work, and it's yours (see Section 6 of the Terms).

The quiz. You can take the quiz without an account. We don't store your individual quiz answers — the quiz produces a result and is then discarded. If you ask us to send your report, we keep the email address you give us to deliver it and to communicate with you about the Service.

Payment information. When you subscribe, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details. We don't see or store your full card number. To run your subscription, we do keep basic administrative transaction records — such as your email, the plan you're on, payment status, renewal dates, and the last digits of the card — and we receive routine billing events from Stripe to keep your subscription current.

Technical and usage information. Basic information your device and browser send automatically (such as IP address, device and browser type, and app interactions) used to operate, secure, and improve the Service. We design our operational logs not to contain the content of your writing or your quiz answers.

We do not ask for, and ask that you not provide, more sensitive personal information than the work requires.

3. Sensitive reflections, and your consent

Working Inland is a personal-growth tool, not therapy (see our Disclaimer). Even so, the text you write may naturally reveal sensitive personal matters — for example, thoughts about your mental or emotional health. Under Colorado law, that kind of information is treated as sensitive data, and we process it only with your consent. That consent is freely given, specific, and separate — we ask for it through its own clear, opt-in control during onboarding, not bundled into your acceptance of the Terms, because accepting a general agreement is not the same as consenting to this. You're never required to share anything you don't want to, and you can withdraw your consent at any time from your account settings — it's as easy to turn off as it was to turn on. Once you withdraw, we stop further AI processing of your writing immediately, and always within the 15 days the law requires. Choosing not to consent, or withdrawing later, doesn't change your access to the coursework or the price you pay — it only turns off the AI guide. You can also permanently delete specific reflections or your entire account at any time.

4. How we use your information

We use your information only to provide and run the Service for you, specifically to:

• create, secure, and support your account;

• store, display, and back up your writing so it's there when you return;

• let our bounded AI guide read and reflect on what you write, ask questions, and hold the structure of the work;

• process your subscription and send billing, renewal, and account messages;

• send your report and Service-related communications (you can unsubscribe from non-essential email anytime);

• keep the Service secure, debug problems, and improve how it works; and

• comply with law and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

5. Automated processing (profiling)

The AI guide reads and reflects on what you write. Under Colorado law this is a form of profiling, so we want to be plain about it: the guide responds within the work to help you reflect — it does not make decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects (it doesn't determine eligibility, pricing, credit, employment, or anything of that kind). Because this reflective processing is the core of how the Service works, it operates only on the writing you choose to enter, only while you're using the Service, and only with the consent described in Section 3.

6. Who helps us run the Service

We share information only with a small number of service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract, to run the Service — never to sell it. They include:

Supabase — database, authentication, and storage of your account and writing;

Anthropic — the AI provider that processes your writing to generate the guide's responses. We send the AI provider only the text needed to respond, without your name, email, or account identifier — to the AI provider the request is not tied to you as a person. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, your writing is not used to train its models, and it is retained for up to 30 days to provide the response and for limited safety and security purposes, then deleted;

Stripe — payment processing;

Resend — email delivery;

Vercel — application hosting;

Cloudflare — DNS, security, and bot protection.

(This list is current as of the effective date; an up-to-date list is available at https://workinginland.com/legal/privacy or on request.) We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — in which case we'll give you notice.

7. How we protect your information

Your information is encrypted in transit (TLS) and encrypted at rest, including encrypted backups. Your writing is stored under access controls so that only you — through your account — can reach it; no other user or outside party can. Our staff access content only as needed to operate and support the Service.

To be honest about what this does and doesn't mean: this is not “zero-knowledge” encryption. For the guide to reflect your writing back to you, the Service and our AI provider necessarily process it in readable form. So while your writing is protected, access-controlled, never sold, and used only to run the Service, we don't claim that no one but you could ever technically access it.

8. How long we keep it

We keep your account information and writing while your account is active. When you delete your account or content, we remove it from our active systems immediately. Copies in our routine, encrypted backups age out and are overwritten on our ordinary schedule within 30 days, unless a specific legal hold requires otherwise. We don't keep your individual quiz answers at all.

Financial records are the one exception. Records of your payments — charges, invoices, and receipts — are held by our payment processor (Stripe) and kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, even after you delete your account. These are records of transactions, not the writing you do here; your account and your writing are removed from our systems as described above.

9. Your rights under Colorado law

If you're a Colorado resident, the Colorado Privacy Act gives you the right to:

access the personal data we hold about you;

correct inaccuracies;

delete your personal data;

• obtain a portable copy of data you provided; and

opt out of the sale of personal data, targeted advertising, and profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. (We don't sell data or run targeted advertising, and our profiling doesn't produce such decisions — but the right is yours regardless.)

To exercise any of these, email support@workinginland.com; many of them you can also do yourself from your account settings. We'll verify your request and respond within the time the law allows, at no charge for a reasonable request. If we decline, you may appeal by replying to our response; if you're still unsatisfied, you may contact the Colorado Attorney General. Residents of other states may have similar rights, and we'll honor those that apply to you.

10. Your choices

Export. You can export your writing, free, on any plan, at any time.

Delete. You can delete your account and content from settings; deletion is permanent, so export first if you want a copy. Records of your payments are an exception, kept by our payment processor as the law requires (see *How long we keep it*).

Email. You can unsubscribe from non-essential email at any time; we'll still send essential account, billing, and renewal messages.

11. Cookies and similar technologies

We use only the cookies and similar technologies needed to run the Service — to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, secure the site, and protect against bots. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking technologies. [If we ever add analytics, we'll describe them here and honor your choices.]

12. Children

The Service is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn we have, we'll delete it.

13. If you're in crisis

Working Inland is not a crisis or emergency service. If you are in crisis or anyone's safety is at risk, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. Our crisis resources are always at /crisis.

14. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll give you notice — by email or in the app — and post the updated version here with its effective date. We won't make quiet changes.
